There have been countless animal species that roamed the Earth since it’s beginning and it’s a darn shame we won’t ever see them. While it’s near impossible to ever see creatures like the dinosaurs, but scientists are planning to produce hybrid clones of other previously extinct creatures.
One such creature is the gigantic and furry ancestor of the Asian elephant, the ‘Woolly Mammoth’. Using sophisticated DNA manipulation procedures, scientists are now aiming to create hybrid cloning. They have taken DNA samples from a well preserved frozen Siberian Mammoth.
The research is being led by Professor George Church.
He said: “It would be more like an elephant with a number of mammoth traits.
“We’re working on ways to evaluate the impact of all these edits and basically trying to establish embryogenesis in the lab.
“We already know about ones to do with small ears, sub-cutaneous fat, hair and blood, but there are others that seem to be positively selected.
